The Kwara State College of Education, Oro, the first to be established by the Kwara State Government was established in 1976 as an advanced Teacher’s College with a temporary site at the Federal Government College, Ilorin.  It is an off-short of the School of Technology Ilorin, established in 1974.  The name was changed to Kwara State College of Education, Oro – Ilorin in 1978. (i.e. Kwara State College of Education, Oro with a temporary campus at Ilorin.)  Accordingly, Edict No. 2 of 1978 was promulgated.  The 1978 edict was reviewed in 1984 and it is being currently used.

However, for several geopolitical reasons, the College did not move to her permanent site in Oro until 1981, where two primary schools (St. Andrews Catholic School and Muslim Community School, Oro) were acquired for use as lecture rooms and offices.  In January 1983, the College moved to her present permanent site called ‘OKE IROKO” occupying a quadrangle of four blocks, in Oro which is about 50kms from Ilorin the Kwara State Capital of Nigeria.
